 Misc. War Voyages:

Inger Lise, with a cargo of paper and resin for Glasgow, station 12, was in the Halifax-U.K. Convoy HX 27 in March-1940. Towards the end of May-1940, she was briefly in Convoy OA 156, which left Southend on May 27 and was dispersed 3 days later. She was bound for Bordeaux at the time. The Norwegian Akershus and Varangberg are also listed. (See the external links below).

A French visitor to my website has told me that Inger Lise sailed from Gibraltar on June 19-1940 in convoy (unnumbered, ships evacuated in emergency from Brest) under French escort. At Oran June 20, so it looks like she barely avoided being interned, like so many other Norwegian ships at that time.

By July that year she was in Halifax, leaving with Convoy HX 59 on July 19-1940, together with several other Norwegian ships. She had a cargo of lumber for Aberdeen and sailed in station 42 of the convoy, right next to the Norwegian Belinda and Siremalm. (Inger Lise had been cancelled from the previous convoy, HX 58). In Sept. she joined Convoy OA 208, which left Methil on Sept. 2, dispersed on the 6th. In Nov.-1940 she's listed, with a cargo of lumber for King's Lynn, in the slow Sydney (C.B.)-U.K. Convoy SC 13, said to have been originally scheduled for the faster Convoy HX 87.

At the beginning of 1941 we find her in Convoy OB 277, leaving Liverpool on Jan. 22, dispersed on the 27th. She was scheduled for the Halifax-U.K. Convoy HX 112 at the beginning of March, but did not sail, and was also cancelled from HX 113, but finally got away in HX 114 on March 11, lumber for Hull, station 24. However, it looks like she must have had problems keeping up in the fog and gales experienced, because on the 24th she was sent to join up with the slow convoy SC 25. She subsequently joined Convoy OB 313 the following month (left Liverpool Apr. 22, dispersed ont he 28th), and in May/June-1941 she appears among the ships in Convoy HX 128 along with a few other Norwegian ships. On this occasion she had a cargo of lumber for Preston and was sailing in station 63, but due to her slow speed she left this convoy after a few days and joined the slower Convoy SC 32 instead.

It now loos like she made a voyage to Gibraltar - she shows up in Convoy OG 67, which left Milford Haven on July 3-1941 and arrived Gibraltar on July 20; please go to OG 67 on the page listing ships in all OG convoys. As will be seen, her final destination is given as Lisbon. According to the external site below, she subsequently returned to the U.K. with Convoy HG 70, leaving Gibraltar on Aug. 9, arriving Liverpool on the 23rd. Inger Lise later joined the westbound North Atlantic Convoy ON 12, which left Liverpool on Sept. 1-1941, and the following month she's listed in the eastbound Convoy SC 48 in which several Norwegian ships were sunk, namely Erviken, Rym, Ila and Barfonn. Inger Lise again had a cargo of lumber, destination Boston, station 25 (presumably Boston, U.K.).

In the spring of 1942 she joined the westbound North Atlantic Convoy ON 88* (left Liverpool on Apr. 21), bound for Halifax, returning to the U.K. in May in Convoy SC 84, leaving Halifax on May 14. She subsequently went back to Halifax with the westbound Convoy ON 108*, which left Liverpool on June 30, and at the end of July that year she joined the slow Sydney (C.B.)-U.K. Convoy SC 94, cargo of lumber for Preston, rescuing survivors from the torpedoed Trehata, 1 of 11 ships sunk. At the end of the following month I have Inger Lise in station 82 of the westbound Convoy ON 126, but she later lost touch with the convoy in fog. Going back to the external site below, we find that Inger Lise also sailed in Convoy SC 104, which left New York on Oct. 3 and arrived Liverpool on the 21st. Inger Lise joined from Sydney, C.B. This convoy is not available on my own site. She returned to New York in Convoy ON 148* the following month (left Liverpool on Nov. 23, arrived New York on Dec. 13).

Follow the links provided for more details on these convoys, many Norwegian ships took part. *All the ON convoys mentioned here are available and will be added to individual pages in my Convoys section in due course, along with further details on each. In the meantime, please go to these convoys in the section listing ships in all ON convoys.

2nd mate (later 1st mate) on this ship from late 1943 and onwards was Stein Stendal, who had previously served as radio operator and 4th mate on Alar. (He became the captain of Inger Lise after the war).

 POST WAR:

Sailed as Blink for K. Th. Einersen, Oslo from Aug.-1947. Sold in July-1950 to Birger Pedersen & Søns Rederi A/S, Haugesund and renamed Bro in 1951. In seasonal lumber trade. Abandoned off Portugal on Nov. 21-1962, listing heavily, on a voyage Sevilla-Rotterdam. In Apr.-1967, while unloading cargo at Storesund a fire broke out in the boiler room. Damaged and laid up at Smedasund, Haugesund. Sold "as is" in June-1967 to Gothenburg and used as "storage vessel". Delivered to Breakers in Santander, Spain in June-1968.
