Aramis' voyages up until July-1942 are listed on the following images from the National Archives of Norway (unfortunately, one of the scans received from the archives is incomplete, info missing in margin): Captain Erling Nordkveld Christensen. Sunk (partly) on July 17 -1942 by the German aux. cruiser Michel while on a voyage from Simonstown for Trinidad in ballast with a crew of 43. More details of this attack and the subsequent fate of the crew can be found in the text for Aramis on my page "Norwegian Victims of Michel", where I've assembled information on all the Norwegian ships captured by Michel. My page Merchant Marine POW's has the names of, and info on Norwegian seamen in Japanese imprisonment, including those from Aramis. France had a liner named Aramis, which was taken over by the Japanese for use as a transport, renamed Teia Maru. Torpedoed and sunk by the American submarine Rasher on Aug. 19-1944, west of Negra Point, Luzon Island, Philippines. |
