D/S Gudvin To Gudvin on the "Ships starting with G" page. Owner: D/S A/S Gudvin Built by Sørlandets Skibsbyggeri A/S, Fevig, Norway in 1918. Previous name: Sørland until 1933. Related item on this website:
In service England-Iceland with coal early in the war? In Sept.-1940 Gudvin, with a cargo of wood pulp for Preston, was scheduled for the slow Sydney (C.B.)-U.K. Convoy SC 4, but cancelled and instead joined the next convoy, SC 5. A couple of months later we find her in Convoy SC 12, cargo of pit props for West Hartlepool. Follow the links for further dates and info. In the spring of 1941 she's mentioned in Convoy SL 70, which left Freetown on March 29 and arrived Liverpool on Apr. 23. However, she probably did not sail, as she's also listed in the next convoy, SL 71, on Apr. 8-1941. Follow the external link provided below for more. In Aug.-1941 she was one of 14 Norwegian ships in the westbound North Atlantic Convoy ON 4. Her destination is given as Sydney, C.B. and she had station 74 of the convoy. The following spring, in Apr.-1942, she's listed in Convoy RU 17 from Reykjavik to the U.K., and at the end of Aug. that same year she shows up in Convoy RU 38, vehicles and stores for Glasgow. Gudvin is listed among the ships in the Liverpool-Gibraltar Convoy KMS 22 in July/Aug.-1943, together with the Norwegian Belnor and Tanafjord. Gudvin was bound for Bone with coal - note that she's also included in the second table on my page for this convoy.
Sold by D/S A/S Gudrun in 1960 to Brødrene Anda, Stavanger, where she arrived on March 19-1960 for breaking up. Related external link: Back to Gudvin on the "Ships starting with G" page.
