Lindvigs Rederi), Oslo. 1386 gt, 708 net, 2000 tdwt, 239.9' x 36.7' x 15.8', Tripple exp. (builders) 171 nhp. Sold in 1922 to Skibs-A/S Salvesen (Jacob Salvesen), Farsund and renamed Spind. Regin is listed the Norway-U.K. Convoy HN 10 in Febr.-1940, bound for Hull with general cargo. Early in March we find her in the U.K.-Norway Convoy ON 17 and at the end of that month, Regin, again with a general cargo for Hull, is listed in the Advance Sailing Telegram for Convoy HN 22, but it looks like this AST covers both convoys HN 22 and HN 23A, and that she, in fact, sailed in Convoy HN 23A, thereby ending up in allied service (the Germans invaded Norway shortly thereafter). At the beginning of Sept.-1940 she sailed in the slow Sydney (C.B.)-U.K. Convoy SC 3, from which the Norwegian Lotos was sunk, and which had a large number of Norwegian ships. Regin had a cargo of lumber for Grimsby. Early in the new year we find her with a cargo of pit props for West Hartlepool in Convoy SC 18, which left Halifax for the U.K. on Jan. 2-1941. At the end of July she's listed in the westbound North Atlantic Convoy ON 1, leaving Liverpool on July 26-1941 with several Norwegian ships, as will be seen by following the link. She returned the following month with Convoy SC 42, departing Sydney C.B. for the U.K. on Aug. 30 (the Norwegian Stargard was sunk, Regin rescuing 9 of her survivors). M/S Arosa, D/S Vestland, and D/S Bestum also took part. The book "Attack & Sink - The Battle of the Atlantic Summer 1941" by Bernard Edwards has also included D/S Måkefjell*, D/S Askeladden, D/S Inger Elisabeth, D/S Knoll, Lancing and M/T Storaas in this convoy (all these ships are listed on this website). Please follow the link to SC 42 for details on this battle and the names of ships sunk, as well as the names of all the ships in the convoy. See also the 1st external link at the end of this text.
In the spring of 1943 Regin made a voyage from Milford to Algiers in station 13 of Convoy OS 48/KMS 15 - the 2nd external site that I've linked to below has more on this convoy, which left Liverpool on May 20. Regin was in the Gibraltar portion of the convoy (KMS 15), which arrived there on May 30, while the OS portion continued to Freetown. KMS 15 will also be added to my own Convoys section. I also have a snippet of information saying that Regin was in Alexandria in July-1944, departing for Tripoli/Augusta/Naples/Malta on July 25 (left Augusta for Naples on Aug. 9).
Managed by Finn Hannestad, Halden from 1947. Sold in 1953 to First Shipping Corp. Ltd., Pusan, South Korea and renamed Kang Won. Broken up in 1959. Related external links: OS and OS/KMS Convoys - As can be seen, Regin is listed in Convoy OS 48/KMS 15. Back to Regin on the "Ships starting with R" page. Other ships by this name: This company had previously had another Regin, originally delivered in 1883 as Behera to owners in Sunderland, 1498 gt. Sold to Norway in 1913 and renamed Torkel, then Asplund in 1921. Sold to Hannestads Rederi A/S (Marcus Hannestad), Halden in 1929 and renamed Regin. Ran aground in Aug.-1938. Norway had also lost 2 steamships by this name to WW I. The 1st was built 1913, 1844 gt (E. Lund) - struck a mine and sank in the North Sea on Febr. 23-1915. The 2nd was built 1915, 1846 gt (E. & N. Chr. Evensen) - torpedoed and sunk by the German UB-49 off Cape Mele near Genua while on a voyage from Genua for Almeira in ballast on Dec. 20-1917.
