M/S Thor I To Thor I on the "Ships starting with T" page. Here's another picture - external page. The site also has several pictures from when she was being built. See also this page (one picture on this page shows Thor Heyerdal's Kon-Tiki on board in 1947 - the site says that Kon-Tiki was to be taken from Tahiti to San Francisco, where she arrived in the morning of Sept. 29-1947). Owner: Bryde & Dahls Hvalfangerselskap A/S. Built by Framnæs mek. Værksted A/S, Sandefjord in 1938 for service in the Pacific. According to the external website that I've linked to above, she was delivered on Nov. 2. Her voyages are listed on these original images from the Norwegian National Archives:

Sold on Dec. 4-1953 to Vilhelm Torkildsen, Bergen and renamed Marstenen, had two more name changes (Hadera for AB Kullaberg, Haganäs, Sweden in 1957, and Skandinav, having been sold at auction on Jan. 14-1963, the Swedish company having gone bankrupt, according to the website that I've linked to below. She remained laid up at Helsinborg, without the new name having been painted on). She subsequently became the Greek owned Fani for Dimitrios Coustas & Nicolaos Gregoriou, Piraeus in Oct.-1963. Had a fire on board on Sept. 1-1969 while repairing at Piræus (the website below gives the date as Jan. 19, while undergoing repairs at St. George's Bay), and was towed out of port and beached on Salamis Island. Refloated the same month and taken to Eleusis for breaking up. Related external link: Back to Thor I on the "Ships starting with T" page. Other ships by this name: Thor Dahl had previously had:
