CONVOY HX 331
Departed New York City on Jan. 8-1945 and arrived Liverpool on the 22nd.
Arnold Hague's "The Allied Convoy System" gives 62 ships in this convoy.
|
Transcribed from several documents received from Tony Cooper - His source: Public Records Office, Kew. A 1 form is not available to me and, therefore, I don't know the station numbers of these ships.
Info re. Russian convoys has been added with the help of "Convoys to Russia", Arnold Hague and Bob Ruegg. |

Notes: Henry B. Plant, on a voyage from New York for Antwerp (via Liverpool) with 9300 tons of engineers supplies, did not make it to her destination. She was sunk on Febr. 5-1945 by U-245. On board were a crew of 40, 23 armed guard, 1 pilot and 1 U.S. Army officer - 9 crew and 3 armed guard died (Axis Submarine Successes of World War Two", Jürgen Rohwer and "Lloyd's War Losses", Vol I). The Rescue Vessel Perth was on her 28th voyage as such, having started this voyage from Clyde with the westbound Convoy ON 273 on Dec. 19-1944, to Halifax Jan. 2-1945 - returning to Clyde with Convoy HX 331, Jan. 10-Jan. 22-1945. Her previous eastbound voyage had been with Convoy SC 161. ("Convoy Rescue Ships 1940-1945", Arnold Hague). Related external links: Eastbound convoys 1944 & 1945 - This page shows all the other eastbound convoys sailing in 1944 and 1945 in chronological order. Liberty Ships - All the ships listed as American in the table above were Liberty ships. This website lists them alphabetically (includes "Sam" ships). The Empire Ships website has a section listing the "Sam"-ships, and other Liberty ships. To the next HX convoy in my list HX 332 |
