CONVOY HX 1
Left Halifax on Sept. 16-1939 and arrived Liverpool on the 30th.
Arnold Hague's "The Allied Convoy System" gives 15 ships in this convoy.

Notes:
* There was also an American ship named Vermont during the war. I'm assuming this was the French one, which was later captured (Oct. 15-1939) by U-37, 48 01N 17 22W - sunk by explosives and shelling with the loss of 2 lives. However, having said that, I'm not entirely sure, because she was en route from the U.S. to France at that time, and judging from the sinking position as well as date, and taking into consideration that this convoy reached Liverpool on Sept. 30, it almost looks as though she must have gone back across the Atlantic, then made another eastbound voyage - but would she have had time to do so?
