CONVOY CU 8
Departed New York on Dec. 2-1943 and arrived Liverpool on the 13th.
Arnold Hague's "The Allied Convoy System" gives 18 ships in this convoy.

See also Ships in all CU convoys (includes tonnage of each ship, and year built), and Escorts for all CU convoys.

Transcribed from documents received from Tony Cooper, England.
His source: Public Records Office, Kew & Lloyd's List.

The majority of these ships were tankers, all American, except Empire Halberd.

Notes:
Commodore was in Sea Serpent, Vice Commodore in HMS Trumpeter.

Commodore's notes are not available.

* Julesburg left with the rest of the above ships, but had to put into Halifax for repairs to boiler. Arrived Halifax on Dec. 7. Listed in the next convoy, CU 9.

* Georgia is shown to be leaving New York again on Dec. 5-1943 for the U.K. In fact, she's listed as sailing in Convoy UT 5 which arrived Clyde on Dec. 15-1943. She later returned with Convoy TU 5 at the end of that month, as did some of the other ships from CU 8 (both are external links).

Escorts (Received from Don Kindell - His source: The late Arnold Hague's database):
USS Charles Lawrence
USS Daniel T. Griffin
USS Donnell
USS Hopping
USS Reeves
USS Sims
All joined on Dec. 2-1943 and remained till Dec. 13.
