According to my sources the M/T Katy was maybe damaged by U-857 and not by U-548
Jürgen Rohwer "Axis submarine successes of WWII"
On Page 195 he writes:
U-548 / Krempl could not have been the attacker since tho boat had been lost on 19.04.1945. U-857 / Premauer was lost nearby the same day, in 36°09'N, 73°10'W
Best regards

P.S. This is an outstanding website

U548 was indeed lost on 19 April 1945, but U857 was located by USS Gustafson on 7 April 1945 lying on the bottom near Cape Cod and was destroyed in a Hedgehog attack.
Katy was torpedoed and damaged by U879 on 23 April east of Kitty Hawk; she was taken in tow for Lynnhaven and later repaired.

Thanks to you both - it helps a lot to have observant visitors! I'll get it corrected for my next update.
