I am looking for information on the owner of Bakke ships in the early 1900. In particular, the son of Bakke.
The son's namee as Emille or Charles and married in Australia. He disappeared and we have no trace of that side of the family.
I am excited that I have found the Bakke shipping line as I hope to open up the family tree search by tracing the founder of Bakke ships.
Any information at all would be an improvement
Thanks

Steve
I am not too sure that there is a link between the Bakke family in which you are interested and the Bakke ships that you have found on this site (and presumably elsewhere). I would think that maybe someone more familiar with the Knut Knutsen ships can tell you how they got the Bakke names.
From his early shipowning days in the later 1890s and certainly well into the 20th century, none of the Knut Knutsen ships had Bakke names; they started appearing in the mid-1920s and many general cargo vessels of Knutsen's quite large fleet had adopted this style of naming by the start of the Second World War.
The only early Bakke I have been able to find is Lars Bakke, of Aalesund, who was owner of the small steamer Hugin, built in 1906 and of 111 gross tons.

WELCOME BACK MR. JORDAN!!!!
Now to Steve:
I've looked through my book on Haugesund ships and ship owners in the hope of finding an explanation for the Bakke name, but there's nothing. Knut Knudsen does have a website, but whether they'll be willing to answer questions such as yours I don't know.
It might be worth your while to go to some of the many Norwegian genealogy forums. The Digital Archives has one at [
digitalarkivet.uib.no]
Click on the link below the little paragraph "debate" on the right to find the various forums. Also there's one at [
www.slektsbiblioteket.com]
Click on "Etterlysninger" to leave a query, and don't let the language scare you, people leave messages in English as well as Norwegian.
Good luck
Siri
