My father,Thomas Cook (from Dundee Scotland),was on the Southern Adventurer during 1951-1955.I am looking for anyone that may have information on the ship itself or any of the whalers. Is there a record office or museum in Norway that I could contact?
I'd like to find one of his shipmates,Olav Kirkeberg (I may be spelling the surname incorrectly). My father went home with Olav one time on a holiday before setting off back to the whaling. Olav lived near Tonsberg and I think his father was the mayor of their small town at the time.
I have quite a few photos of the ship and the men he worked with.

They have the post war archives for sailors on Norwegian ships. Since Southern Venturer was a Sevilla Whaling Co Ltd. whaler with Chr. Salvesen & Co, Leith as managers, you may end up having to go to archives in Leith for more info, but I should think the Norw. archives would also hold info.
There's also a whaling museum in Sandefjord.
Would you let me know how you do on this?
Best wishes
