Ok, I have looked into the problem we had today on the Phorum. Let me summarize what we know about what happened today.
1) My mother tried to delete a message she had wrongly posted. Using the Phorum administrative functions she used the "Quick Delete" function and not knowing how to delete an individual message, guessed that she needed to input the "query string" which follows the ? query mark of the php script which displays the message she wanted to delete. This was not interpreted correctly by the deletion script since it contained illegal characters like "=" "&" and other characters and did something
2) Whatever this "something" is, it sent emails out to some members who had their earlier postings added by my mother to the new forum. This includes Mr. Jordan and Alex van Eesbeeck.
3) I have never seen the body of the error message so I have been unable to determine whether these messages were created as the result of a php script or something else.
4) Because of my inability to isolate the specific cause of the emailing, this evening I went through all the scripts used by "Phorum" and "commented" out the section of the "post_to_email" function which sends mail on behalf of Phorum (you can still send e-mails by clicking on the poster's e-mail address, just like in the old forum). This means that for the meantime, the "email replies to this thread, to the address above" option that you see underneath the box where you post your replies will not work. This is to prevent a repeat of todays events.
I hope that this has resolved the issue of getting error messages, but if anyone gets any further "error" emails from the phorum, please let me know by sending me an email at
