What I have on DERRYMORE is that she was a MV: 4,799-tons, 414ft by 56.9ft by 25.7ft, oil engines 449hp, built in 1938 by Burntisland S.B. Co. owned by McCowen & Gross. Torpedoed and sunkby a Japanese sub. on Feb. 13th 1942 in the Sea of Java. Nine Australian Air Force personnel were killed.
EMPIRE STATESMAN, Ministry of Shipping owned, (Runciman Shipping Co) built 1920 by G.Ansaldo & Co, 5306-tons, 379ft by 51.5ft by 28.3ft, oil-engines, 606hp, British cargo ship sailed from freetown on Nov. 19th 1940, on passage for Oban & Middlesbrough with cargo of Ore. reported engine troble two days later but no subsequent news of the ship was recieved.; She carried a crew of 32.
