I, too, have only just found this site. My uncle, Denis Cannon, was lost at sea aboard the Empire March when it was sunk by the Michel. Denis was only 23, a young lad from Liverpool, and his job was as a fireman. Obviously I never met him. My Dad, recently passed away, never spoke too much about Denis, other than to say his death devastated the family, his Mum especially. His father was already dead by then.
Just read that he Michel was sunk by a US submarine, the Tarpon, soon after dropping off the Empire March survivors in Singapore. It was the first German vessel to be sunk by a US submarine in the Japanese war theatre.
Any further information you have about the Empire March, its crew and their fate I would really appreciate. Links/ photographs, anything. Thank you.
