Official records list the the Empire Wold as sunk by submarine, but the tug is not claimed by German records as a U-boat success and it is now believed that the tug was lost when overwhelmed by the heavy weather prevailing at the time. She had sailed from Reykjavik on 10/11/44 to assist Shirvan.
