Hello Thomas,

The floating dock was actually sunk. See KTB Kommandanten der Seeverteidigung von Saloniki (Kapitän zur See Jerchel). There were four wounded including the dock master.

The British got confirmation of the sinking of the floating dock through a signal to Smyrna from their SOE agent Ioannis Peltekis (code name APOLLO) on 30 November 1943 (a list of his signals can be found at the Benaki Archives in Athens). The APOLLO network did stellar work for SOE. See my Corinth book for some details of his activities.

A question for Stirrick: where did you get that the floating dock had a 15,000 ton displacement? I do not seem to find anything besides 300-400 ft long in Clutterbuck's report. This description seem to indicate a much smaller floating dock (perhaps 2-4,000 tons?).

Best regards,

Platon
