I’m rather late to the party, but I can add one or two scraps of information from notes that I made long ago from Lloyd’s List; I hope that something of it will be of use. These movements were reported:

Nos. 825–828 (Russian tugs): sailed New York 10/8/46, destination unstated; I didn’t pick up any subsequent reports, and would guess that two of these four ended up in the Black Sea Fleet and two in the Northern Fleet (the Russian site that Creese linked to gives MB-41 and 42 as Black Sea units and MB-39 and 40 as Northern).

LT 823, 824, 831 (Russian tugs): passed Balboa 14/8/46, bound Vladivostok via San Francisco

LT 831: San Francisco 28/8–14/9/46 for Vladivostok

LT 823 and 824: San Francisco 29/8–14/9/46, Galveston for Vladivostok

Pevek and Rautan (Russian tugs): Cristobal 11–14/8/46, New Orleans for Vladivostok; arrived San Francisco 29/8/46 from Galveston. (So were they from New Orleans or Galveston?) These two, though on passage at the same time as the LTs, were civilian and appear in the 1964–65 Soviet Register, port of registry Vladivostok, 145 GRT, dimensions 25.90 x 7.00 x 3.70 m (Pevek), 27.55 x 7.05 x 2.85 m (Rautan).

--------------------

Lloyd’s List for 23/1/47 carries a report from Washington dated 22/1. It states that Russia has bought two US surplus ocean-going tugs. They were originally built for Russia under lend-lease, which was ended before they could be delivered. They are now at Orange, Texas, where Soviet crews have arrived to sail them to Russia.

This presumably correlates with the following movement reports:

MB-221 and 222 (Russian tugs): sailed Brownsville 8/2/47 for New York, arrived there 15/2/47.

MB-43 (ex MB-221) and MB-44 (ex MB-222): sailed New York 10/3/47, accompanied by MB-55 (ex Rockhawk), MB-56 (ex Rockthrush), and MB-57 (ex Rockcrystal). All five called Bermuda 12–14/3, Fayal 24–24/3, and Falmouth 29/3–19/4, for Swinemünde, passing through the Kiel Canal 22/4.
