My Grandfather Walter Wilmshurst was Third Engineer on SS ''Hilderwell''
(West Hartleppol), Mercantile Marine who died Wednesday, 20th December 1916. Age 20. Inscription on Merchant Navy Memorial at Tower Hill London & Roll Of Honour Albert Park Middlesbrough.
The following is information I have researched.

Completed September 1892 by William Gray & Co Ltd, West Hartlepool for G B Harland, West Hartlepool. 1902 sold to T W Willis, West Hartlepool.
December 14th 1916 attacked by a German Submarine off Ushant but escaped.
December 20th 1916 sank in the North Sea after striking a mine, 22 of her crew were lost. Ship was on passage from Bilbao Spain to Middlesbrough with a cargo of iron ore at the time of her loss.
Would be interested if anyone has any photographs
