I talked more with my father today. He's getting up there in age so I don't know how much he actually remembers, but he said they never actually fueled submarines directly, but they usually fueled depots and storage tanks on shore. The Liss was a much smaller tanker than most so they could get into ports where other large tankers couldn't.A lot of times they would transfer oil from larger ships to theirs and get into shallow water ports others couldn't. He said they spent most of the time picking up oil in present day kuwait and some where up the euphrates and then going through the suez canal to different ports in N.africa and up into Italy once the allies had taken the bottom half of Italy. In regards to the out of service you were refering to:He said at one point they were stuck in Aden for about three months waiting for boiler parts to come from Sweden. He says he remembers the name knudsen and another one on the website but can,t put a name to the face.He was from Niagara Falls ,Canada and said that most of the crew was Norwegian except for himself ,the radio operator(scottish),the dems gunners(english)(one gunner was named Jordy,He was a big man with a twisted nose like it had been broken many times)and a few sailors .The one sailor he could remember was named Johnny Cutbush.I have a few pictures I'm going to try and submit to the website. He also has a few more I'll try and dig up.
