Any help in finding my grandfather will be great. Here is what I know.

Department of State, Washington
In your reply refer to 130-Hatten, Albert Barns
November 3, 1944
Mrs. Julia Cosella, Leavenworth, Kansas
Mr dear Mrs. Cossella:
This Department has under consideration a seaman passport application excuted by Albert Barns Hatten, who stated that you are in a position to testify regarding the date and place of his birth. In this connection it would be appreciated if you would execute the enclosed blank affidavit form and return it to the Department as promptly as possible in the enclosed self-addressed envelope, which requires no postage.
It may be stated that it will be necessary for the Department to receive your affidavit before further consideration may be given to the passport application under reference.
Sincerly yours
R. B. Shipley
Chief, Passport Division

My dear Mrs. Cassella:
The Department has received your communication of November 9, 1944 concerning your brother, Albert Barns Hatten.
In reply, you are informed that your brother executed his seaman passport application at San Francisco, California, on September 8, 1944, at which time he gave his permanent address as 203 Fourth Street, San Francisco, California.
No other information concerning your brother is contained in the Department's files and it is suggested that you contact Lieutenant R. H. Farinholt, room 1008, Seaman Records and Welfare Unite, United States Coast Guard, Washington, D. C. who may be able to furnished you with further information.
Sincerely yours,

Mrs. Julia Cassella, 113 North 5th Street, Leavenworth, Kansas
Dear Mrs. Cassella:
This will acknowledge your letter of 22 April, 1945 in which you request information concerning your brother, Albert Barns Hatten.
This office has received no record of service for Mr. Hatten since he signed off the SS Blue Jacket 2 November, 1944 in San Francisco, California.
It is possible he is employed on a United States Army Transport or a vessel operation under foreign registry in which case this office would not receive a record of his service.
If you believe he is employed on an Army Transport it is suggested you communicate with their office of Civilian Personnel, Pentagon Building, Arlington, Virginia.
By direction of the Commandant
Very truly yours,
R. H. Farinholt
