Thanks Reg.
I also think that some of the information I have on the "front" page of my ship lists is worth repeating here.
The Norwegian Maritime Museum in Oslo has a large database covering Nortraship ships and seamen (also non-Norwegian seamen).
For information, write to
Norsk sjøfartsmuseum
Bygdöynesveien 37, N-0268 Oslo, Norway.
Their Website: [
www.norsk-sjofartsmuseum.no]
Their E-mail: fellespost@norsk-sjofartsmuseum.no
Also, the National Archives can help:
National Archives of Norway
Folke Bernadottes vei 21
Postboks 4013 Ullevål stadion
N-0806 Oslo
E-mail:
riksarkivet@riksarkivaren.dep.no
Here's how to find Nortraship Archives at the National archives website [
www.arkivverket.no]
Go to "Webkataloger", then "Hovedkatalogen for Arkivverket". "Gå til søkesiden", choose 'Riksarkivet' out from 'Velg arkivinstitusjon' and hit 'start standardsøk'. Type Nortraship for 'Navn', and 1940 and 1945 in fields for 'tidsrom', then 'start søk'. That should bring you to a list of links to a description of Nortraship archives. Part of list is in English, but description of where the misc. info can be found is in Norwegian. Unfortunately, the English search button does not bring the same results.
Here are som addresses to misc. other archives in Norway [
