Hi. Hope that your search is going well. My grandfather was the Commanding Officer of the USCG Cutter Campbell that was part of the Convoy that the Inneroy participated. I am also looking for info about both the Inneroy and the Empire Amethyst. I do know that the Amethyst was Torpedoed and sunk by U-553 (Thurmann) on Jan. 22-1942, while en route from Aruba to Halifax (to join an eastbound convoy) with a cargo of 11 000 tons petrol for England. Position was 41 16N 60 32W. 5 survivors were rescued from a lifeboat by the British ship S/S Empire Amethyst 15 hours later. 31 Norwegians, inclduing the captain, 2 British, 2 Portugese and 1 Canadian had died in the flames.
NOTE: Roger Jordan gives the number of dead as 31.
Jürgen Rohwer gives the position 42 30N 59 54W.
Empire Amethyst: Tanker MOWT. Torpedoed and sank by U-154 4/13/42 at 17.40N 74.50W
Possibly built by Furness, Shipbuilding LTd. Haverton Hill-On-Tees.
I am presently reviewing records of the Campbell for more info and I will send it to you if I find anything.
