Good afternoon to everyone,
the most detailed data on WWI merchant shipping losses, I have found till now, are in the Salter's "Allied Shipping Control", Table No. 6, War Losses of Merchant Vessels of Allied and Neutral Nations August 1914 to November 1918, pp. 355 - 359, Oxford (Clarendon Press), 1921. (Accessible here: [
archive.org].)
He divides his tables by States, by months, and by years. Unfortunately, he describes only tonnage lost (although in a very detailed way), not particular numbers of ships.
Any idea on his core sources?
For example, he states different tonnage lost for British Empire than in "British Vessels Lost at Sea, 1914-1918", published by HMSO in 1919. He apparently counts vessels of all sizes (e. g. 34 grt, 7 grt etc.).
Is his table compatible with Lloyd's War Losses WWI?
(I am particularly interested in Allied and Neutral losses, excluding submarine victims accessible on Uboat.net, although with some discrepancies in comparison with Salter's tables.)
