Dear all,

I have a query concerning the Norwegian s.s. NOTOS.
On the Warsailors site there is an entire page regarding this ship.
I am interested because in Dutch archives I found that a Dutch m.v. NOTOS was in Surinam and left on 13 June 1944 with 2 Dutch Naval boats for New York.
This ship had been sailing the Caribbean for years!

I think there is on the Warsailors site a mix-up of 2 vessels.

The Dutch m.v. NOTOS was built in 1939 bij Boele’s Scheepswerven & Machinefabriek in Bolnes for the Dutch KNSM (launched 1 March 1939, taken over by the owners 19 June 1939). On 2 September 1939 she left for the Caribbean. In Newspapers of the Dutch Indies of 1940 and 1941, she frequently appears. Also in the Panama Canal Records (available until spring 1941) she appears during 1939, 1940 and 1941.

The site [janda.org] (NEW YORK SHIPS TO FOREIGN PORTS) lists two ships named NOTOS. The Norwegian s.s. NOTOS leaving New York for the last time on 16 January 1942, while the Dutch m.v. NOTOS is many times in New York during 1944 and 1945.

Is it possible on the Warsailors website to separate the information of the Norwegian s.s. NOTOS from that of the Dutch m.v. NOTOS?

Jan
