I'm sorry - this won't really answer your question, but might provide some more info as to the loss of Bateau.

She was a Panamanian ship, I don't have much written up on her, but I do have a little bit about the convoy she was in at the time she was sunk in the text under the ship "Sulla" here:

You will see she was sunk by the German destroyer Z 26 in the very early hours of the 29th, 39 died, 7 were rescued).
