the official report is a bit vague on that subject but the following information can be found:
"... Nr.1 lifeboat on the starboard side was lowered down at once, and shortly after the Port lifeboat was lowered, 38 men went into the Starboard lifeboat, when none more of the crew could be sighted the boat went off from the ship, and started rowing against the shore. The whole time under the lowering and rowing against the shore the lifeboat was machinegunned. The Officers Cook was hit by a bullet in the ankle and he lost a lot of blood, but we managed to stop the bleeding. After about 3/4 hours rowing the boat was landed through heavy breakers. Everything went well, and all hands took shelter in the wood. The breadtank and the watertank was taken in shore. The cook who was the most wounded got a new bandage on his wound and a few other injured were taken care of, after that all the crew got bread and water. After about one hours time some natives came to the landing place bringing Coconuts with them. They told us it was a hospital about one hours travel from the place we were and the most injured were taken there, that was the Officers cook, two fireman and one Salonboy.
