Unfortunately, my last posting contains nonsense. Sorry for my mistake!
German U-boat command tracked U 153 from 30. June to 13 July in following positions:
30.6.: square DP48
01.7.: square DO95
02.7.: square DO89
03.7.: square ED24
04.7.: square ED41
05.7.: square EC64
06.7.: square EC91
07.7.: square EC75
08.7. and thereafter square EB (operational area)

Last signal of U 153 had come early on 30.6. from position 22.28n 62.23w.
On 5. and 6. July attacks of several Havocks (A-20) of 59. Sqn USAAF. U-boat evidently sunk.
Since 10. July U 153 was several times ordered to report its Situation, but did not answer.

On 12. July at 09h55 Catalina P-7 of 81. Sqn USN attacked Uboat in position 10.18n 81.45w.
Various other patrolling aircrafts sighted an oil slick moving in pos. 09.53n 81.18w and dropped no less than 21 depth charges between 13/01h35 and 14/00h41.
On 14. July at 00.35 Lansdowne entered the oil slick. 20 minutes late the destroyer gained excellent sound contact and dropped 11 depth charges.

Axel Niestlé stated that attack of Catalina P-7 on 12. July was clearly directed against U 505.
The extensive oil slick observed on 13./14. July probably originated from the wreck of the British tanker "Motorex", being sunk by U 172 on 18. June 1942 in 10.10n 81.30w (20.000 Barrels of diesel fuel).
