SABAUDIA ex STOCKHOLM, a passenger motor-ship laid down 10.4.1937 at Monfalcone for the Svenska Amerika Linien, launched 28. or 29. 5.1938, a large fire broke out on board during fitting out 19.12.1938 fed by the bora winds, largely dismantled and part of the hull drawn back on the slipyard for rebuilding 1.6.1939, launched again 10.3.1940, sea trials in June 1941 in the Gulf of Fiume, modifications to the hull at the Arsenale di Venezia 3.7-28.8.1941, completed 6.12.1941, 30.390 grt, but not delivered (not accepted by her shipowner), in 1942 SABAUDIA under the management of Italia di Navigazione, not put into service, 9.1942 laid up in Trieste in the Porto Franco Vecchio still under Swedish colors, 9.9.1943 under German control there, 1944 shifted to a mooring in the Vallone di Zaule, 6.7.1944 sunk there (capsized in shallow water) in an Allied air raid, 1948-49 salved by CRDA and broken up at Cantiere San Rocco at Muggia.
The previous SABAUDIA ex JABIRU, 1.635 grt/1911, a cargo steamer under the British flag to 12.1933, owner Ditta Dani & C. of Genova, requisitioned by the Regia Marina on 27.10.1940, was sunk (blown up) by British naval forces on 16.4.1941 off the Kerkennah islands during a Naples to Tripoli voyage with a cargo of ammunition.
