The Estonian steamer MALL, was laid down as WAR VIGIL for the Shipping Controller, UK, and completed in July 1918 by American Shipbuilding Co, Lorain, Ohio (ship number 732) for United States Shipping Board as LAKE HARNEY. Later changes in owner and name were:
1920: sold to International Coal Transportation Corporation, USA;
1923: sold to Compagnie Nationale de Navigation, France, and renamed GERMINAL;
1929: sold to Reval Shipping Co Ltd, Estonia, and renamed MALL; 1930: sold to Tallinn Shipping Co Ltd (Tallinna Laevushisus AS), Estonia;
12 Jan 1942: chartered to Irish Shipping Co Ltd, Dublin, renamed IRISH ROSE;
17 May 1946: returned to previous owner;
1946: sold to Copania Maritima Flamenco SA, Panama, and renamed FLAMENCO;
1952 sold to Katana Societa di Navigazione Marittima, Italy, and renamed NIZETI;
1955: transferred to Katana Societa di Navigazione Marittima, Mancuso and CSAS, Italy;
1957: renamed ATA;
21 Feb. 1958: stranded on Mwemba Island, off NE coast of Zanzibar, while on voyage from Basrah to Mombasa; declared a constructive total loss and abandoned;
21 April 1958: refloated and towed to Mkokotoni, Zanzibar;
18 March 1959: sailed in tow from Zanzibar for Dar-es-Salaam to be broken up.
