According to Schmelzkopf ARIZONA, 5457 grt/1925, Harlem SS Co./mgt Brown, Jenkinson & Co., was sold in 1928 to the CGT of Le Havre. Transferred to German control on 1.12.1942 under the Kaufmann-Laval Agreement, sunk in Palermo by air attack 17.4.1943. Quote: "Many information sources maintain that in Dec. 1942 the ship was given over to Italy and renamed CHIETI. That is wrong, the result of a mistake with the French SS ARTESIEN! (3152 grt/1921)".
I should add that, while the first edition of Saibčne-Brouard-Mercier gave that information about ARIZONA/CHIETI (curiously adding that both ARIZONA and ARTESIEN took that same name), the latest edition omits the name CHIETI, and only mentions the transfer to Italian control.
