Erik
GILLHAUSEN was owned by Fried Krupp AG, Essen, Germany, and had been built in 1921 by Fried Krupp AG, at Kiel.
The vessel was 4339 gross tons, 2350 net tons, 6980 deadweight tons, length 380.1 feet, breadth 47.45 feet, draught 24 ft, length of poop deck 41 ft, length of brdieg deck 115 ft and length of forecastle 47 ft; powered by a Krupp steam turbine that gave the vessel a service speed of 9.5 knots. The vessel had been lengthened in 1932.
Reports of 1941 stated that GILLHAUSEN had stranded near "Krakowes", and other reports stated stranded near Kirkenes. Is there a location near Maloy that is something like Krakowes? The date of stranding was 26 September 1941.
