Further to the query re this vessel - The Bolton Hall, with her captain acting as Commodore of convoy OB17, the first west bound convoy of the war, sailed from Liverpool on 9th. October 1939, the Liverpool ships made rendezvous with eight ships which had sailed from Milford Haven. As they steamed northwards the enemy appeared in the shape of U-42, which surfaced close enough to Bolton Hall to be able to read it's number. The Bolton Hall was ready and promptly got off three rounds from the old gun they had had mounted, which caused the submarine to dive.

Nothing further known. As Siri has stated it would appear that she survived the war.
