I have a little information on the Mangen:
D/S Mangen, built 1922 at Christiansands Mekaniske Verksted. 1246 gross register tons (some sources say 1253). Owner, O. F Ahlmark & Co Eftr. AB. Home port Karlstad.
After having finished loading its cargo of coal (1396 tons), the Mangen left Cardiff on December 6th, 1940, destined for Lisbon. Two days later the vessel joined a convoy (OG.47) off Milford Haven and the voyage south began. On December 21, approximately 360' west of Portugal (40 45N/16 50W) the convoy was subjected to a submarine attack (It. Mocenigo). Mangen was hit by a torpedo midships on the port side which caused a huge explosion. The vessel sank within three minutes. Since the lifboat on the port side had been destroyed in the explosion and the starboard one couldn't be lowered (because of the list the ship had taken immediately after having been torpedoed) the crew had to jump into the sea. Five men managed to reach a raft while seven others managed to stay afloat in the water until being picked up by a lifeboat from the Swedish steamer Garm, which was steaming behind the Mangen in OG.47. Eight men had been lost, the surviving crew was put ashore in Lisbon on December 24.
Hope this helps
