Minor corrections on your initial question:
The cruisers Abruzzi, etc. were 8th Division (not 3rd). They sailed from Palermo on 24 August (not 23rd). The five destroyers are correct and they did sail on 23 August but from Naples, joining up the next morning with the three cruisers off Palermo.

The destroyers escorting Littorio and Vittorio Veneto on 23 August were:
Granatiere, Fuciliere, Bersagliere, Alpino, Aviere and Camicia Nera.
