Cargo ship Llandilo, 4,966grt (E.T. Radcliffe & Co.) had loaded a cargo of military stores in New York and stopped off in Trinidad. After leaving Trinidad sailing independently her final destination was for Bombay via Saldanha Bay & Durban. On the 2nd November 1942 South-East of St Helena the ship was intercepted by U-172 and sunk in position 27' 03S 03' 08W. The Captain, 20 crew and 3 Royal Navy DEMS gunners were lost. 17 crew and 3 gunners were rescued by the Norwegian ship Olaf Bergh and landed in Port of Spain, Trinidad.
