Chris Wright chris.kit.wright@lineone.net has asked me to post the following for her:

"Many crewmen were billeted with local families whilst in port and my parents regularly took in two officers.

Chief Aspin Nosin and Simon Salyst, who was affectionately known as Daddy. Aspin was from Dalabikkad, Kristiansand and his birthday was December 17, Simons birthday was December 30. Simon I believe had a son and daughter who would be about 12 or 14 years at the end of the war. My mother wrote regularly but then lost contact but after she had died someone from Norway visited Gateshead and was trying to make contact but without success. Does anyone know of these families or the names of ships which visited the Tyne?"

Chris has found a picture of Simon and his family, taken at LUDWIGSEN STUDIO, LARVIK. She thinks it was taken before the war, judging from the style and ages of the children. If you think you may know this family, please contact Chris at the above E-mail address, and she'll send you a copy of the picture. My guess is that the names should be Espen (last name hard to guess) living at Dalablikkgaten (Dalablikk St.) in Kristiansand and Simon Sjølyst, possibly from Larvik.
