The USS Petrel captured a Spanish navy vessel named Barcelo at Cavite in the Phillipines, 01 May 1898. American sources indicate this was the 2nd class torpedo boat of that name built by Normand in 1886. However, Spanish sources show that vessel never left Spanish waters and was stricken in 1915.
