Vega used for target practice for U Boat torpedo training

My late father told me that after he left the 12th U Boat Flotilla at Bordeaux in February 1944, he manned an AA gun on the Vega and kept Russian spy planes away with firing some rounds whenever they got too close.

I've recently found his war service book, according to which he was with 1 Uboot Lehrdivision at Pillau from 9 March 1944 to 19 May 1944 and I'm wondering if this was when he was on the Vega.

I notice from the record of the Vega that it was used as a target ship until March 1942, but my father, in any case, did not join the U Boat section until Summer 1942.Sent

The record does mention the 25 th U Boat Flotilla using the Vega, but I'm not sure from it if it was used just as a transport ship. My father did serve in the 25th Flotilla from 18 October 1944 to 30 October 1945 and I notice that this was training flotilla.
