My 1920/8th. Endeavour to be 3 miles south west of Cristiani Island by noon. If unable to comply patrol line 000° from Candia dive to northward during daylight.(Capt. S.1., 2358B/8 to TAKU, (R) C. in C. Med., Capt. (S) 10).

09.11.1942:
From dusk today you have freedom of action in Aegean. Time of sailing patrol as necessary to pass through.
1. 035.19, 026.36 at noon/10th. 2. 033.56, 030.30 at 1400/11th.
3. 031.49, 032.35 thence direct to arrive Port Said searched channel 0600B Nov. 12th. You may run on surface daylight 11th. (Capt.S.1.1452B/9 to TAKU (R) C.in.C.Med. etc).

10.11.1942:
Your 1739/10th (N.T. in War Reg.) acknowledged. You will be docking at Port Said for alternations to tanks for petrol carrying. (Capt. S.1 2238B/10 to TAKU).

b) Mediterranean Fleet, Admiralty War Diary 1942:

12.11.1942:
H.M.S. TAKU (Lieutenant A.J. Pitt), returned to Port Said from a very successful working up patrol in the
Aegean. She reported having sunk a caique in the vicinity of Kupho, and the Italian tanker ARCA at 0804 on
the 26th in position 38-04N, 25-27E. At 1056 on 31st October, in position 37-30N, 24-03E, she probably sank
a medium sized merchant ship out of a convoy of three ships, escorted by three trawlers.

APPRECIATION OF EVENTS FOR November 1942:
H.M.S. TAKU and the Greek submarines NEREUS and TRITON all carried out patrols in the Aegean.
TRITON, however, did not return. She was sunk by depth charges after an attack on an enemy convoy in the
Doro Channel. TAKU sank an Italian tanker, a medium sized merchant ship and a caique on her patrol, her
Commanding Officer's first in these waters. The enemy's shipping losses in this Aegean have done much to
create alarums and excursions, and succeeded in diverting a portion of his A/S and air patrols from other
theatres.
