In C.Blairs Hitlers U-Boats Vol 1 he states that the steamer "Alfred Jones" was being used as a U-Boat trap off the West coast of Africa.In the book he states that
when U 107(G.Hessler) hit the "Alfred Jones" with two torpedo,s the crew left the vessel in lifeboats,Hessler states that when he approached the "Alfred Jones" he saw
dozens of sailors hiding on her tilting deck ready to man
half a dozen 4"& 6"guns and depth-charge chutes and other weapons.Also Rohwers Axis Sub successes also has the "Alfred Jones" as a armed merchant cruiser.
My question is,Is this correct as I have not seen this stated in any other books or sites,was she a Q ship or just a merchant ship with a 4" gun on the aft end.
