The identify of the Jewish refugee ship STRUMA which was sunk in the Black Sea in February 1942 with only one survivor is an interesting question.

It is believed she was a steamer named MACEDONIA renamed in 1941 which had been dropped from Lloyds Register some years earlier.
The identity generally given nowadays is:
Built in 1867 by Palmer Bros. Newcastle as XANTHA, an iron screw steamer of 204 grt. I found it in Lloyds 1923 as ESPEROS, ex-KAPHIREFS, ex-yacht SEA MAID, ex-SOLYST, ex-XANTHA.

Any information about this ship under any of her identities is wanted.
Any one who has or knows of a picture please let me know.
